Dean of Students

Marburn Academy, the only independent school entirely dedicated to serving children with learning differences in the Greater Columbus area, is currently seeking a Dean of Students for the 2016-2017 school year. The Dean of Students reports directly to the Associate Head of School and is responsible for fostering an atmosphere conducive to learning and will oversee all issues pertaining to the behavior management process. Extensive knowledge of academic and behavioral problem solving, and student/parent/teacher collaboration a must.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Associate Head of School to develop and manage academic and social policies, protocols, and practices that serve to support student development, learning, health, and safety.
• Oversee student conduct and maintain student discipline.
• Promote high standards and expectations for academic performance, student leadership, personal integrity, and community responsibility.
• Support the on-going social and emotional needs of our student body.
• Provide guidance/discipline as necessary to achieve the goals of behavior management plans and/or assist students in following school rules.
• Plan and lead or co-facilitate lunch/recess groups.
• Serve as a resource on social and behavioral issues for all staff.
• Communicate about student social and behavioral issues that extend beyond the purview of the classroom teacher.
• Develop an understanding of the “whole child” from both an academic and social/emotional perspective.
• Serve various and ad hoc committees as needed.
• Supervise co-curricular program.
• Monitor student health plans around serious Allergy and Chronic Health issues.

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in Education, Educational Leadership, School Counseling, School Psychology, or Social Work preferred.
• Concentration or experience working with school age students.
• Extensive knowledge of academic and behavioral problem solving, and team and parent collaboration.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Strong desire to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Ability to advance the mission of Marburn Academy.
