Summary 

Marburn Academy, Central Ohio’s only school devoted to serving students who learn differently due to dyslexia, ADHD, and/or executive function challenges, is actively seeking individual applicants for its Board of Trustees. Such applicants should be passionate about Marburn’s mission and vision to assist students who learn differently. 

Marburn Academy values diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from individuals, including Marburn Academy parents or grandparents with expertise in a variety of disciplines, including, accounting, marketing, medical, human resources, law, media, corporate organizations, educational entities, foundations, cultural organizations, Trans and Gender Nonbinary Communities, and BIPOC Communities.

Responsibilities of the Board

Over the years, Marburn has achieved significant milestones thanks to the dedication and expertise of its board members. The board plays a crucial role in fulfilling Marburn Academy's mission to celebrate students who learn differently, empowering them to awaken their potential, achieve success in school and life, and drive positive change in our communities.

Board Members serve as key contributors to the strategic direction and governance of Marburn Academy. Board Members provide guidance and oversight to the Head of School, and ensure the continued growth and value to Marburn Academy stakeholders. Responsibilities include upholding the organization's mission and vision, supporting and holding accountable the head of school, guiding the strategic vision, fiduciary oversight and sustainability, fundraising, service monitoring, assessing board performance, and ensuring legal and ethical integrity. Finally, Board Members are the strongest advocates for showcasing Marburn’s value to the community.

Individual Board Member Expectations

Each Board Member is expected to understand the organization's mission, policies, and financial statements, actively advocate for the organization, contribute to financial resource development, utilize connections for collective action, prioritize Marburn Academy in personal charitable giving, participate consistently and actively in board meetings, participate in committees, engage in learning opportunities while respecting diverse voices. Trustee term consists of two (2) consecutive three (3) year terms.

Opportunities for Growth

With three committees (Governance, Advancement, and Finance), and several nominated roles, there is a clear path to make an impact at Marburn Academy by leading and participating in several ways. The Board of Trustees has four elected roles: Chairman, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary, and three committees. There are various ways to make a positive impact and ensure Marburn is here to serve the community for years to come. Finally, the opportunity affords individuals to serve alongside outstanding leaders who have chosen to dedicate their time and effort to Marburn.

Additional Nonprofit Board Member Responsibilities:

Members must uphold legal duties, follow bylaws, policies, and resolutions, disclose conflicts of interest, maintain confidentiality, and comply with nonprofit governance laws.
