Marburn Academy, an independent day school devoted to serving the educational needs of students who learn differently in New Albany, Ohio, is currently seeking candidates for its 2024-2025 cohort of Orton-Gillingham (OG) Teaching Interns. The OG Teaching Interns will support the delivery of academic services to K-5 students in Central Ohio, using the Orton-Gillingham Approach — a direct, explicit, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling do not come easily to students, such as those with dyslexia.
This internship begins September 4, 2024 and ends May 23, 2025.
This internship offers:
$20/hour for all hours worked,
An OG training certificate reflecting accumulated hours of training, tutoring, and supervision by a certified Orton-Gillingham Fellow, and
Assistance applying for Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA) certification at the OG
Classroom Educator (OGCE) level upon attainment of a bachelor’s degree.*
*Intern must tutor in a small group setting for a full school year to qualify for OGCE certification.

The OG Teaching Intern Experience
OG Teaching Interns will serve in a pivotal role in expanding the reach of Marburn Academy’s outreach services to Central Ohio students. In this role, interns will:
Learn how to implement the principles of Orton-Gillingham instruction, a structured literacy approach based on the science of reading
Participate in training sessions led by a certified Orton-Gillingham Training Fellow
Complete a six-month practicum by leading individual and/or small group tutoring sessions for students in grades K-5
Develop lesson plans in alignment with the Orton-Gillingham Approach
Schedule regular touchpoints with the Orton-Gillingham Training Fellow to receive feedback on lesson observations
Analyze student performance data and report on student progress
Experience and Skills
Deep interest in serving students who learn differently
Current enrollment as a junior or senior in a post-secondary education program for pre-service teachers
Strong organization and communication (written and verbal) skills
Passion for serving culturally diverse populations
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Openness to feedback and collaboration
Physical Requirement
Ability to stand, traverse for extended periods of time two plus hours or more
Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time of two-plus hours
Ability to visually detect, observe and recognize
Verbally and audibly communicate and exchange information with the ability to position oneself to do so
Ability to move, lift and position:
Regularly up to 10lbs
Frequently up to 11- 30 lbs
Occasionally over 30lbs
Rarely up to 50lbs with assistance as required
Hours
To be determined and not to exceed 8 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Hours will primarily include evenings (3:00-7:00 p.m.).
Occasionally, staff members will be required to participate in certain activities such as events or meetings outside of the regularly established schedule.
